Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss

This is the Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss, a special edition designed to commemorate the 300 SLR in which the racing driver won the Mille Miglia in 1955.

This one is quite a bit faster than the original though, with 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of nearly 220mph. The styling is deliberately "retro race car" with no windscreen, windows or roof. The £600,000 price tag includes a leather cap and goggles!

The carbon fibre car is based on a standard SLR but with a major restyle, including huge side vents, massive air intakes and a very long nose.

Inside, the race car theme continues with few creature comforts, but build quality is exceptional. I understand that Mercedes planned to build only 75 of these, but I have a feeling that a less expensive derivative with larger production run may follow, perhaps based on the standard SL range. I hasten to add that this is my prediction, and not based on any inside knowledge.
