Aston Martin One-77

Revealed at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, the Aston Martin One-77 is their most expensive car yet.

With a price tag of £1.2 million, and production limited to 77 cars, this is truly an exclusive vehicle. All have already sold, even though the first has not been delivered yet.

The first production car was driven in London at the end of April 2010, and first deliveries are scheduled for June 2010. If you are reading this after that, you may have been lucky enough to see one on the roads (very unlikely though).

The One-77 retains the Aston Martin family design, and is arguably their best looking yet. It is the first car in the Aston range to use a full carbon-fibre monocoque, reducing weight to just 1,500kg. This is not the only design taken from racing cars; it also uses pushrod suspension, which should significantly improves its handling on a race track, although it makes it less comfortable over our lumpy, pothole-ridden British roads.

But comfort is probably not your main concern when you can accelerate to 60mph in 3.5 seconds and keep going onto a top speed of 220mph. Your first priority is to do that safely, which is why the suspension is so important. This performance is powered by a brand new 7.3 litre V12 generating 700bhp (brake horse power), hand built by Cosworth.

Stopping quickly from high speed is equally important of course, and the One-77 has carbon-ceramic brakes able to absorb the massive temperatures generated during braking without significant loss of effectiveness.

Interior is simple and stylish in equal measure, with oodles of carbon fibre and leather. More details and pictures to follow.

Now you would think that to be able to buy one of these would make you very privileged. But there are reports that a middle eastern buyer approached Aston Martin about buying 10! He was originally turned down by the car maker, but they soon accepted when they saw the size of the cheque (he reportedly paid more than the asking price). This should be taken with a pinch of salt though, as rumours like this are very difficult to verify.

As with all posts on this website, I will review the details here and added more about the One-77 as it becomes available.
